High School Driver's Education

Drivers Education -
Fall 2024

Students now have two options to choose from for taking Driver’s Education with Albert Lea Community Education. See the descriptions and requirements below for each option and register for the class that you feel is the right choice for your student.

IN PERSON CLASS INFORMATION:

Please plan ahead and register early, classes will fill fast! Driver's Education information is subject to change at ANY TIME.

Prepare your future driver for the permit test, the State of Minnesota Graduated Driver’s License Test (GDL) and a lifetime of driving. Class fee includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

  • PARENTS MUST CREATE AN ACCOUNT FIRST AND THEN "CREATE A RELATIONSHIP” AND ATTACH THEIR STUDENT TO THEIR ACCOUNT.
  • Students MUST attend the 1st day of class or a waitlisted student will be allowed to take their seat. If your spot is filled due to your absence you will need to contact our office to move your registration to a future class.
  • Early bird registration fee of $385 ends 2 weeks prior to the start date of class. After that, the price increases to $405.
  • Deadline to register for class is 1 week prior to the start date of class.
  • Upon successful completion of the class, there may be an opportunity for students to take their permit test on the last day of class. In the event that is possible we will need your student's social security number. You will be asked to provide it upon registration.
  • If your student is not eligible to take the permit test in class, they will need to make arrangements to take the written permit test on their own. Testing locations and information can be found on our website here.
  • SUPPLIES NEEDED TO BRING TO CLASS EACH DAY: pen, pencil, and highlighter.

**Students will have two (2) weeks, from the classroom completion date, to complete any outstanding course work. If course material is not completed within two (2) weeks, the student will not receive their blue card to test for their permit due to failure to complete the course in the allocated time. They would then need to contact the Community Education office to be re-enrolled in the next available class, and repeat the entire drivers education class. No refunds will be given.

ONLINE CLASS INFORMATION:

Albert Lea Community Education is excited to partner with A+ Driving School to offer fully online Drivers Education courses.

Class fee includes online access to complete the MN state requirement of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

  • PARENTS MUST CREATE AN ACCOUNT FIRST AND THEN "CREATE A RELATIONSHIP” AND ATTACH THEIR STUDENT TO THEIR ACCOUNT.
  • Students will have a designated amount of time to complete the online training. Upon registration you will see the date span listed that the course must be completed by. Students are allowed 3 hours per day to work on the material, allowing them to be done in 10 days if they so choose. If the material is not completed within the time range listed, students will need to re register and pay for the class again. Refunds will not be issued.
  • Registrations for online classes will close approximately 1 month prior to the last date of class listed in the registration.
    • For example; Fall Online Driver’s Ed will be active 9/1/24 to 12/31/24, but registration will close for the class 11/15/24 to allow everyone time to complete the class before the 12/31/24 deadline.
  • Early bird registration fee of $385 ends 2 weeks prior to the registration deadline. After that, the price increases to $405.
  • Once registered, a link and a coupon code will be sent to the email address you provide. The link will connect you to MnDE.CruiseControlEducation.com, NOT A+ driving school. The email address attached to the STUDENT’S ACCOUNT, is the address where the link and coupon code will be sent. Remember to check your spam folder if you are having trouble finding it.
  • Upon successful completion of the class, you will receive a link to myblueslip.com, where you will select Albert Lea Community Education to notify our office you have completed the classroom portion and can receive your blue card. We will contact you when it is ready for pickup. You will then come to the Community Education office to receive your blue card, which will allow you to arrange an appointment with the DMV to take your written permit test.
  • Testing locations and information can be found on our website here.
