You'll leave the class with helpful action items with you family to help gain a better understanding on what to do/what not to do within the app. The class will help set up a healthy foundation for technology habits your family members can use for the rest of their life whether in school or in their professional careers.   • Acupressure for Sinus Relief, Headaches & More

    Acupressure is an ancient, Eastern healing technique that involves pressing or kneading key points on the body to release energy blockages and simulate energy flow through pathways called meridians. Continual sinus problems have become epidemic in both children and adults. You can find relief by stimulating the many points that relieve sinus blockages, headaches and more.
  • Adult Open Play Basketball

    This is a non instructional activity. Adults 18 and over are welcome to join for a pickup game of basketball!
  • Adult Rock Climbing Belay Clinic

    Throughout this clinic participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of putting on a harness, tying in, climbing commands and belaying. This class will prepare you with the knowledge to test for belay certification. THIS IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL CLASS THAT IS FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT CLIMBING AND BELAYING, AGES 18+. THE CLASS IS NOT FOR THOSE ONLY WANTING TO CLIMB. Please see our rock gym hours of operation if you are interested in only climbing time.
  • Alzheimer Series: Dementia Conversations, Driving, Doctor Visits, Legal, and Financial Planning

    When someone is showing signs of dementia, it’s time to talk. Often, conversations with family about changing behaviors can be challenging and uncomfortable. This program provides tips for breaking the ice with your family so you can address some of the most common issues that are difficult to discuss: going to the doctor for a diagnosis or medical treatment, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans for future care. This class is a live online class via Zoom.

    Expecting parents & children ages 0-12 months & parents - JOIN ANYTIME The first year of your baby's life is very special. Enjoy quality time with him/her singing songs, doing baby art, and learning about all of their developmental milestones. Parenthood is ever-changing and sometimes scary, let us help you along the way, meet weekly with a parent educator to play and learn.

You will meet other expecting families in the community and take home a goodie bag! Learn about baby’s development and even ask questions with a registered nurse! Join us in this night of celebration.
  • Biscuits and Butter Oh My!

    Biscuits and Butter the old fashioned way! This course is FREE to Albert Lea School district students in 6th and 7th grade, and is made possible through a federal grant. Did you know it wasn't that along ago that people did not have the convenience of cooking indoors with an oven? Join us to experience the lost art of cooking over an open campfire and making your own from scratch biscuits and homemade butter! If your student has any food allergens please do not enroll them, substitutions will not be made in the recipes. THERE WILL BE NO LATE BUS PICKUP. PARENTS WILL NEED TO PICKUP THEIR STUDENTS AT 5PM. If you have previously enrolled in this free youth class, please be considerate of others and, contact our office to be put on a waitlist. We want to allow other students, who have not gotten to attend, the opportunity to experience this activity. If you enroll and can not attend please let us know as soon as possible to allow us time to contact those on a waiting list who would like to participate.

    For children ages 2-3 years & parents. Get ready for some fun! You and your toddler will get to meet new friends, move and groove at circle time, and bring home an art project to display on your fridge! Adults will enjoy some social interaction with a brief discussion in an adjoining room.

In this class you’ll understand recommended safety settings on popular social media apps, parental apps for your child’s Smartphone, and more! You will leave this class with a confident plan to simplify the technology so that you and your child can use the phone safely without worry.   • Decorative Sign Painting

    Join us at the creative space downtown for this Decorative Sign Painting class! Come check out Tammy Fink's new space and paint a 12-inch decorative sign. Using acrylic paints and wood glue you will create a 12-inch dimensional wood sign. No painting skills needed. These signs easily pieced together and look great no matter what your skill level is. There are five varieties to choose from below with other options available displayed in the shop. If there is a custom design that you would like to create please contact Tammy Fink AT LEAST A WEEK PRIOR to class at taf02@live.com or find her on Facebook here. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Defensive Driving (4hr) Refresher

    This is an approved crash prevention class for drivers 55 and older. This 4 hour refresher is for those who have already taken the initial 8 Hour Driver Discount Course within the last 3 years and would like to maintain a 10% discount on auto insurance. No tests are given. Must pre-register. Feel free to bring a beverage and/or snack to class.
  • Defensive Driving (8hr)

    This is an approved crash prevention class for drivers 55 and older. Taking this class will certify you for a discount of 10% or more a year on your auto insurance for 3 years. After 3 years, you will need to take the 4-hour refresher class to continue the discount. No tests are given. Must pre-register. Feel free to bring along a beverage and/or a snack to have during the class.
  • District 241 Lifeguarding Certification

    PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE COURSE DESCRIPTION AS THIS COURSE HAS MANY REQUIREMENTS TO RECIEVE CERTIFICATION The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. This program offers a choice of Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience. Prerequisites Candidates MUST: Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course. Swim 300 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or headfirst, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Certification Requirements Candidates MUST: Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions. Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during scenarios Demonstrate competency in all required skills Pass the final skills scenarios Successfully pass final written exams with a minimum grade of 80%. If a participant fails to reach the minimum 80% on the final written exam, a retest is allowed using the other version of the exam, provided that the participant has passed the practical assessment Blended Learning only: complete all eLearning modules. Certificate Issued and Validity Period The American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is valid for 2 years. IMPORTANT REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS This course is FREE to Albert Lea School District Students ONLY and is made possible through a federal grant that the district received. Informational sessions are MANDATORY. You and your student MUST attend in order to be eligible for the swim test, online course and in-person training. After attending an informational session you can enroll in one of the swim test slots available. Once you pass your swim test a link to an online course will be sent to you. You will need to successfully pass and complete the online course in order to be eligible to enroll in the in-person training classes. The online course takes roughly 7 hours to complete. It is required by the American Red Cross that you complete 19 hours and 45 minutes of in-person training. Failure to do so will result in not receiving your Lifeguarding Certification.   • Early Childhood Screening - February 29, 2024

    What is early childhood screening? Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of how your child is growing, developing, and learning. It is a review of your child's height, weight, hearing, vision, speech, language, motor, and cognitive development. Screening at 3 is preferred, but a child may be screened between the ages of 3 and the start of kindergarten, as required by Minnesota state law. Screening is not an examination to determine readiness for school but to screen for potential problems that may interfere with a child's ability to be successful. Early screening and intervention promotes early success. Information to note: If you need to cancel your appointment, please call 507-379-4838.. If you need to schedule a "re-screen" for vision, hearing, or development, please call 507-379-4838. For screening appointments, please allow 1 - 1 1/2 hours. You will need to be buzzed at the front door. Upon completion of the registration, please do not forget to "Check out." This will confirm your appointment.
